  • Iran’s Foreign Ministry slams UK for huge arms exports to Saudi Arabia to pound Yemen
    Tehran has reaffirmed its support for Yemen’s unity and territorial integrity, condemning Saudi Arabia for pushing Yemen on the brink of the worst humanitarian crisis, according to the Foreign Ministry website. In a statement, Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi pointed to recent developments in southern Yemen, stressing, “On the basis of its principled policy, the Islamic Republic of Iran supports a united Yemen with the territorial integrity of that country being protected.” On the declaration of self-rule in Yemen's south, the Iranian diplomat said, “Such measures not only do not help the settlement of the existing problems in Yemen but will also further complicate the situation in that country.” Tehran Times, May 02, 2020
  • Iran condemns any destabilizing action in Iraq
    Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi condemned that any action in Iraq which weakens stability and peace in the country. “Iran supports Iraq’s efforts in fighting terrorism and establishing peace and stability in this country and condemns any action that undermines peace in Iraq,” he said. He also condemned Daesh terrorist attack on the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) which left at least 10 members of the group killed. He described the terrorist action as “criminal”.   • U.S. military presence endangers regional security, Iran says
    The Iranian Foreign Ministry reiterated in a press conference, “We do not recognize the United States’ presence, especially military presence, in the Persian Gulf. The United States have disrupted legal patrolling of our armed forces and we have given necessary warnings”. U.S. Navy issued a statement on claiming that 11 Iranian IRGC boats had closed in on up to six U.S. naval vessels in the Persian Gulf “in dangerous and harassing approaches”. Rear Admiral Ali Reza Tangsiri, the commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy, has said that Iran had warned the U.S. forces to leave its theater. Tehran Times, May 05, 2020
  • Russia says U.S. nuclear deal exit has deteriorated Persian Gulf security
    Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s permanent representative to the Vienna-based international organizations, has said that the United States’ withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the JCPOA, has deteriorated security in the Persian Gulf region. Ulyanvo tweeted, “Two years ago today #US withdrew from #JCPOA. Now we can see that this step resulted in deteriorated security in P. #Gulf, development of nuclear programme of #Iran beyond the agreed limits and desperate efforts of US to restore the status of a participant of the #IranDeal”.   • Iran, Pakistan Weigh Plans to Step Up Border Security
    In a telephone conversation, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri and Chief of the Army Staff of Pakistan General Qamar Javed Bajwa talked about the plans to intensify security along the common border. The top Iranian commander stressed in the conversation that it is necessary for the two Muslim neighbors to broaden security measures along the common border to prevent the law-breaking terrorist groups and the common enemies of the two nations from disrupting security at the border.   • Iran’s UUV to add new dimension to its warfare capability: Forbes
    Iran’s newly unveiled Un-crewed Underwater Vehicle (UUV) will add a new dimension to the country’s systematic warfare capability, Forbes reported. According to the report, the vehicle is loosely comparable to the Boeing BA Orca extra-large un-crewed underwater vehicle (XLUUV), which is being developed for the U.S. Navy, in terms of size category and, crucially, diesel-electric propulsion, if not sophistication. It means that “Iran joins an elite club with only the U.S. Navy and Britain’s Royal Navy having such large UUVs”. Tehran Times, May 31, 2020
  • IMO says will examine naval threats against Iran
    Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Kitack Lim said the UN specialized agency’s legal teams will examine the United States’ naval threats against Iran oil tankers. In a video call with CEO of Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran Mohammad Rastad, the South Korean chief of IMO said he will be conducting necessary investigations into the case on the basis of conventions and regulations, according to Tasnim News Agency.
